Tanya Gleason Characters study

TANYA GLEASON

Name; Tanya Gleason.

Age; 17 years old shortly going to turn 18.

Year; The play is based in present day.

Place; Stockport, grammar school called Stockport Grammar school, most scene take part in the common room and library with in the school.

this is an image that i thick what the common room looks like, as the windows are not enough to open open wide for William in scene 5.

Studies; I have made the decision that Tanya is studying English (she has crush on the teacher Mr Anderson), History ( "it's the History exam this afternoon as well.") and  General Studies (as everyone has to do this as said in scene 1)

Personality; Tanya is a kind and caring person and cant help but stick up for people that get bully, this back fires half of the time due to Bennett is always bullying her. Tanya also has a crush on Mr Anderson but it seems more of Crush as she wants to have his baby and want to be his secret lover, therefore she is more obuse with him. This give me the though that she has father issue as she goes for the old man, so really she is looking for the father finger instead.

Tanya also has not set her stands high after sixth form as she dose not talk about a carer or going away and moving out of Stockport she only tends to talk about having children (scene 3 page 42/43).

Relationship with Characters;

Cissy - Tanya best friend even though Cissy betrays her with telling Bennett (Cissy boyfriend ) about Mr Anderson (scene 1 page 20 evidence). Tanya also see all the different sides of Cissy hen around different people and really dis-likes it shown when Tanya down answer at the end of scene 4 and just walks away.

Lilly - The new girl that Tanya is assigned to look after her on her first day; after a month soon to become good friends

A scene that shows Cissy, Lilly and Tanya being good friends and messing around is scene 4 when talking about being parents.

Chadwick - Tanya always there for Chadwick when being bully as she understands that he is there just because he has to and don't really fit in, do not like the fact that Bennett bullies him this is much shown in every scene particle in scene 4 "Bennett, stop It"

Nicholas - There is not much conversation between these two characters therefore i get the idea that they only speak when have to due to the are friends with the same people.

Bennett - Tanya and Bennett do not have the best relationship and Bennett fear Tanya, as he believes that she knows more about his sexuality then what the rest do therefor he feels the need to bully Tanya to embrace her and always wants her to be one her tip toes when his around. I think the only reason why Tanya put up with him is because of Cissy. Therefore there is always a tension between these two.

William - William really cares for Tanya this comes out in scene 7 when he asks how she is doing and this also makes me think this as he dose not kill her and i think deep down he has always quite liked her as in scene 3 ("were you trying to kiss me?") even know this is away to make Lilly jealous; its just wired that he chose Tanya for it.

How to play Tanya - Characteristic

I see Tanya being kind and caring but having a slight side with sharp character and not being a fared to speak her mind due to this she has a sasses side to her; when talking to Bennett. I think this is because she never always went to a grammar school i think that she went to a stat school at first.

when it comes to Tanya accent she will be posh English still but not queen posh but very articalit and good dexstion when speaking to people.

costume - As Tanya well bought up she fulls the uniform with resepct but also wants to fit in with the others therefore she has a hand bag instead of ruck sack and wears the tie lose and not that long like any normal teenager at her age stuck wearing a uniform.

wearing blouse with a skirt and black tights with a natural like with her hair plane not so much done up.

Addition To Characteristic -

After doing a few runs i found more instead of the character (Tanya). Scene 3  with the lines between Bannet; made me fine horrible twist of the her; that even though she seem nice a sweet half of the time. There is only so much she can put up with; thats why in the scene 3 she is sly with making Bennet self constitution.

PUNK ROCK rehearsal period...

Punk Rock rehearsal period; the week of taking to the script was when we got given our characters, after this we looked at objectives (Mike Alfreds)(Stanislavski); so that we could add this to our scene so that we always had something to play, here is list of my short terms (STO) and long terms (LTO) objectives: scene 1 I have two different STO the first being to found Lilly who is he new girl, second is to get out with showing Bennet my true feelings (upset, scene 3 it is slightly harder as my LTO is to have mess about with the two girls but ones again change as I want Bennet to leave Chadwick alone, scene 4 STO is to get rid of the wasp then enough STO is to re-sure William about Loyd , STO again is to stop Bennet again and last a final scene for Tyana is scene 6 STO to re-sure Cissy that she will be fine and ones again changes a William goes crazy killing everyone therefore my LTO is to get out alive.

I found with in my scene that there is not really a lot of long term objectives that I want, as I found by wanting short term objectives give me more to play with in the scene; I suppose that my whole play objectives is to get sixth from over with and to live with Mr Anderson one day.

Scene 1 rehearsal, I found that the two other Tanya's kept it very still which was not something that I wanted to keep to due to the fact when i was in school I would move around to get in with the conversation more. I believe that this fits scene 1 as Tanya pops up randomly when sentence and words during this scene; I also found that by moving in the scene kept it more active. This week was the first time of my character so at first I was unsure how to play her, but after action the script I had more of perporse to be there and an action to play while on stage instead of looking around waiting for my line.

Scene 3 rehearsal is something I found I little bit hard as I never like doing the fake laugh on stage as I never quite get it, as I think it always sounds wired. This part took me out of my comfort zone at first after going through lines with others in the class during my spear time as made me feel more comfortable with this. This scene is my childish scene by the fact I mess about and chat and gossip with the two girls which is a nice element of the play.

Scene 4 this is the scene where I had the idea when it came to the violet side that is shown with Bennett and Chadwick; the idea that i put across was after the kiss (of chadders and cissy) for Bennett to grab the hair of Chadwick and go to slam Chadwick's face against the table' as it gave the atmosphere for the audience to be on the edge of the chair. The second idea that I had for this scene was the William to pick up and bang/move the table to give sound dynamic to make the scene more active to watch this happens on "I'll kill you for that." . Also this scene is something that i struggle with due to the face that I cant imagine of being scared of the wasp therefore the first time i done this scene is was very mello drama 'a wasp!" ; after a few practice this has improved but I believe there is still some work to do with this. so over the half term im going to get family member to help me with this buy throwing things at me ect to get it correct.

scene 6 is the scene that I found the hardest due to the fact I have to produce real tears on stage; something that i though I would never be able to do. At the being of the scene I struggle to get the tears to start; after coming to a method that worked for me I manged to it. I started by shorting the amount of times I blinked. Then after Adam said to get the berthing tens you're core muscle I add this in with the blinking and I mange to do this. This to me was a good achievement and one of my best scene by far but still think it needs work so I get tears a lot earlier in the scene.

overall I still believe that I need to work on my projection on lines so that I can be heard at the back of the theater . A challenge I have found during the whole rehearsal period is learning the lines every week for reach scene, but it has given me more freedom with my character when doing a run through.

Audition Blog 2 - Classical Speech

Othello is tragedy written by William Shakespeare; the play itself was first published in 1622.
Othello is one of the great tragedy themed plays by William Shakespeare. Othello is a highly esteemed general in the service of Venice. Iago is Othello's ambitious friend. Othello promotes the Michael Casio to the position of personal lieutenant and Iago is deadly jealous. Iago begins an evil and malicious campaign against the hero. Othello elopes with Desdemona but Iago starts to plot against them. Othello becomes jealous and suspicious of Desdemona. He confides in Iago that he plans to poison Desdemona. Plots and murders ensue and Othello returns to the castle to kill his innocent wife. He eventually smothers her to death.
Emilia tells Othello the truth about the scheming Iago. Othello wounds Iago, then kills himself. Iago kills Emilia.
Shakespeare makes the views of play very tragic, seems to view the marriage between Desdemona ( character I've chosen) and Othello as noble and heroic, for the most part with in it.
The different things that I have to consider is that it is late sixteenth century, during the wars between Venice and Turkey,my here is also a major conflict with in the play is Othello and Desdemona marry and attempt to build a life together, despite their difference in age and race. Their marriage is sabotaged by the envious Lago, who convince Othello that Desdemona is unfaithful. This is were my speech takes place as I'm asking Lago how do I get Othello back after he has left me (Desdemona).
The different themes about are the incompatibility of military heroism and love and the danger of isolation. This can be considers to link to the motifs sight and blindness; plants; animals; hell, demons and monsters;  these as things that take place quite a lot in Shakespeare.
The reason why I chose this speech was that is a speech that it is the speech that I have worked on before therefore I have already got a inside into the speech and an understanding with it. I have worked on as it was the speech that Anna Ransford had which i performed at the national theatre London. When I was working on this i really had to work on my articulation: by doing same excise with tongue twisters and precasting over and over agin. also to produce the rhyme of the speech I done a small bounce movement up and town when speaking it out loud this helped me learn it. The biggest reason is that I feel that I have a connection with the speech due to the journey I had with it, as it made me open more to something that I dislike that being Shakespeare.

Classical Theater Assignment Julius Caesar Final Blog Part 2 (pictures, links)

This is a moodle(picture 1) of the original Globe theatre in 1599: here is a link
http://it-it.abctribe.com/Disegni/Guide/Generiche/globe1.jpg that shows a diagram of the orginal stage and lay out;  after looking at this it gives you quite an image in which and how Julius Caesar would of been performed. With a blank background as it was about hearing the actor's, and there were no fancy lights.

Where compare today Julius Caecar there was a triangle add to the stage to make it more contemporary; it also add dynamic to the play...he is a picture showing what I mean (pictures 2).

When Shakespeare first ever started like I said in part 1 that they had no where fancy to get their costumes from; therefore the actors would steel and take from the bins that why actors uses to be knowing lowest of the low, just because they use to do this didn't mean they never use to be good take a look at pic 3 ...they would make do with what they could.

As in the Julius Caesar we saw they were all in the same type of stuff and something that I noticed was where they had gotten there shose from as on the bottom it saod Clark on them, now this is something that you would of not seen in Shakespeare days.

Classical Theater Assignment Julius Caesar final Blog part 1

The tragedy of Julius Caesar was believed to be written in 1599; it is a play that portrays the 44 BC conspiracy against the Roman dictator Julius Caesar. Julius Caesar assassination and the defeat of the conspirator at the battle of Philipp; it is one of several plays written by Shakespeare based on true event from Roman history, witch also includes Coriolanus and Antony and Cleopatra.

even though the title is Julius Caesar; Julius Caesar is not the most visible character in its action; he only appears in five scene through out the play. Its seems that after reading the play that, Marcus Brutus speaks four times as many lines at the center physiological drama is his struggle between the conflicting demands of honor patriotism and friendship to others in the play.

Julius Caesar was knowing to be first performed at the Globe theater; we know this due to a diary entrance from Thomas Killigrew (not to sure on the name but will cheek); who was Swiss traveler who saw the tragedy of Julius Caesar at backside theater believed to be the globe on September 21st 1599 short time after the globe was built.

Now when the globe was first built it was put just on the south bank also knowing as the Devil play ground as it was were people would miss behave and drink. This was not the nice side of the bank as it would be were all the bear cage fighting would take place and pubs plotted area so you could image the atmosphere. Back in 1599 there was no special lighting that let the actor when on stage; so must performances would take part during the day; due to this it wasn't just the actors lit it was also the aduince. As during Shakespeare the time it wasn't about seeing the show it was all about being seen at the theater as social event to stand at the globe and watch it would be 1 shilling, to sit it would cast 2 then the most expensive would 5 shillings; at this price they would be bale to seat on the bouncy; sometimes people would pay to seat on the edge of the stage and watch therefore the actors would sometimes be falling over them.

As it was all about hearing the actors; when Julius Caesar was first performed there would not be no backdrop ect as it would be done with blank behind them. The actors would also not have some where fancy to go a get there costumers they steel and take out the rubbish to make there costumes for their  performance; there acting style would be different to how we see today due to the fact as they would only get there ques lines therefore they never had the second on stage to wait around an relax as they always had to pay attention for there que line.

There are quite a few themes within this play; one being fate versus free will. As Julius Caesar raises  many questions about the force of fate in life versus the capacity for free will of the people. Cassius refuses to accept Caesar's rising power and deems a belief in fate to be nothing more than a form of passivity or coward. This showes in I.ii.140-142 with the conversation with Brutus.

Another main theme is public and private self; this is quite a main one as in most tragedy's stems characters tend to neglct of the private feelings and loyalties in favor of what they believe to be the public good. Similarly characters confuse their private selves with their public selves, harding themselves or transforming themselves into ruthless political machines. Brutus is a good character as example as Brutus, as Brutus  rebuffs his wife, Portia, when she leads with him to confide in her;s believing himself to be acting on people will, he soon forges with murder of Caesar despite their close friendship witch he protarys; this is great example as it sure shows the private him with his wife then how he can soon turn in the eye of public of killing the empire.

this is only to detail exaple of the themes in the play there are also others with such as rhetoric and power, misinterpretations and misreading.

when Julius Caesar was first written, there was in England and associated with Caesar; there was a political awareness that was taken place. As it was possible to change rigidity of rule: rigidity probably extending to tyranny. These possibilities were discussed in the 1590s more widely by way of the death of Richard II a victims in of tyranny, and Caesar assassination out of fear of tyranny. Samuel Daniel's first four book were on the war of roses, Shakespeare was aware of these books bases on the civil wars . Out of all the proportion, devoted 160 of its stanzas to the deposition and deat Richard II and on that same year wrote a play on Richard II; therefore this made people think about Shakespeare more about politics. Julius Caesar shows that Shakespeare is all about the monarchy; by the themes and how the people react to their leader.

The best political example that i can think about is when queen Elizabeth had sat on her throne for nearly forty years, enlarging her power at the expense of aristocracy and House of commons. AS she was then sixty-six year old, her reign seemed likely to end soon, yet she lacked any heirs (as Julius Caesar did). so this coursed many people fear that it would plunge England into the kind of chaos that had plagued England during the fifteenth-century wars of Roses and that's why it relates back to Samuel Daniel's, and Shakespeare directed these worries.

The relevents off today would be that shakespear is for the queen as he belives in monarchy. Where in today soicty no one would be in a panic if we did lose the queen due to the fact that today we have the government to make laws and to run the country, even though the queen is meant to do the royal assent the last time to was done in the correct maner was in the 18century. So therefore the government would lead the country.

i will add the pictures on to different blog and expand on them in part 2.

Audition Blog 1 - Contemporary speech

Contemporary speech :
The contemporary speech i have decided to do for the first assignment is from the play Boys by Ella Hickson, it was published in 2012. The speech is from the character Sophie, sophie is a graduating student who is middle class and from Southern England. This character suites me as its from just a few years older and the same type of background of being in middle class and will have the same accent; during the drama school stage this good work as advantage.
The scene which the speech is from , is based in the kitchen of a student flat in Edinburgh and based in present day around summer time, to whom of Sophie is Mack secret lover. Before the scene takes place Sophie that we know is having a secreyt relationship with Mack. During this She had been going out of Benny's brother Peter, Peter has recently hanged himself; as the evening passes Sophie confesses to Laura that she is in love with Mack;  but before anything could happen between them Mack made it clear that Sophie has to choose between him and Peter. Laura then goes on to make the connection between Peter's suicide and Sophie's choice. Immediately after the conversation,  Mack enters and a snarmyched moment between then Sophie broaches the subject.
After founding what happens in the play when it becomes putting the emotions in to the speech it has given me more to work on.The things i have to consider during vthe speech I that the play takes place over 24 hours so it has only recently taken place,  it is hot as dustbins have not been clear so might feel uncomfortable because of the smell of the rotting rubbish, inside ,the actions is fuelled by drugs and alcohol and last off all what is happening outside, while the flatmates are revelling, a riot is taking place;  that will build up of it feeling intense.
During the speech Sophie wants to confess to her lack of feelings about Peter's suicide,  to gain reassurance that she ia not a bad person-  as she can not feel guit, she is also justify her happiness in the wake of someone else's misery, porfess her love to Mack. This then leaves Sophie vulnerable; I also have to consider what it means to love and to be loved I hate to sound soopy bit at my point of stage in my life I have recently found this with someone therefore I can relate this back to the wjat she is trying to betray. Last of all Sophie is trying to get a response of Mack as she wants him to tell her he loves her to make her feel that it alright .
The reason why I choose this speech was the it was only published a few years ago in fact two and is put into a issue that could happen in any day as dose for some young people out there,  I also fsel that I will be able to show my skills and powerful emotions based on some of tge keywords such as guilt, grief, feel joy and peace during this and it something that I have never done. With such a powerful and emiontal twist to it.
I have chosen this speech to start getting it up on my feet i really had to get into the charactar to do so; so ive done the reseach ive tried just standing there a speaking it with emtion with some parts it worked. ive also recived fed back from friends and family and they adviced me to really work on knowing it and understind the sub lines between each line. this helpped me bring more emtion to it.
